What's the course like?

The Thorlo Karāpiro Marathon is the final day of Long Course Weekend New Zealand. Our course maps for all run / walk distances can be found here. You do not need to worry about long drawn out hills! There are a few short steep climbs to challenge you at certain points of the courses, but besides that, they are all flat to undulating and will be a great opportunity for those of you tackling your first event or wanting to set a personal best time! The world renowned finish line also hosts a family atmosphere with a stunning red carpet finish for ALL athletes, and any family supporters who wish to cross with them. As a spectator, you can come down to watch your loved one cross the finish line and if you come down early enough you can witness the pro’s run through to victory. The run course takes athletes through various areas of Karāpiro and beyond.

Are there awards?

We will be awarding exclusive finishers medals to all athletes as well as a prize to the first three individuals across the finish line, for each age group, for both male and female in all our run distances.

  • Age Groups are 39 and Under; 40 and Over
  • Gender Groups are Male and Female
  • Run Distances are Full Marathon 42.2km, Half Marathon 21.1km and 10.5km
